We've been busy in the hangar. Today marks the biggest platform update since Skjold Airways launched — a wave of new systems designed to bring depth, realism, and community to your flying experience. Here's everything that's new.

🌈 Introducing Bifrost — Our Economics Engine

Named after the Norse rainbow bridge connecting realms, Bifrost is our new economics simulation engine that bridges the gap between virtual flying and real-world airline operations.

Bifrost runs continuously in the background, simulating the financial heartbeat of Skjold Airways:

Dynamic Fuel Pricing — Jet fuel prices fluctuate based on simulated market conditions with seasonal variation. Watch prices rise in summer and dip in winter, just like the real market.

Passenger Simulation — Every flight generates realistic passenger bookings across four fare classes (Economy, Premium Economy, Business, and First). Load factors respond to seasonality, day of week, and route demand.

Flight Cancellations — Not every day is smooth operations. Weather, technical issues, crew shortages, and ATC restrictions can cancel flights — with real financial consequences including passenger refunds and compensation costs.

Aircraft Maintenance — Your fleet accumulates flight hours and requires scheduled A, B, C, and D checks at realistic intervals. Maintenance costs are tracked and aircraft are pulled from service during checks.

📦 Cargo Operations

A new revenue stream is open. Freight contracts are generated automatically across the route network — from general cargo and mail to pharmaceuticals and live animals. Claim contracts, fly the route, mark them delivered, and watch the revenue flow into the airline's books.

✈️ Jump Seat System

Need to reposition to a different hub without flying yourself? Request a jump seat. Pick your destination, receive a boarding pass via email (complete with a PDF you can keep), and wait for a fellow Skjold pilot to fly that route. When they land, you arrive — and receive a "Welcome to your destination" confirmation.

Anti-abuse measures are built in: cooldown periods, request limits, expiry windows, and location verification ensure the system stays fair.

💰 Currency Preferences

Skjold Airways operates in Norwegian Krone, but you can now view all financial data in your preferred currency. Choose from 10 currencies (NOK, USD, EUR, GBP, SEK, DKK, CHF, CAD, AUD, JPY) in your profile settings. Exchange rates update automatically.

📊 Finance Dashboard

Admins and hub administrators now have access to a professional finance dashboard with revenue vs. cost charts, category breakdowns, fuel price tracking, passenger statistics, cargo performance, and maintenance cost analysis — all filterable by hub and time period.

🗺️ Route Demand Scoring

A new analytics tool scores every route's performance based on passenger demand, load factors, and revenue density. Routes are rated and flagged as "Expand," "Maintain," or "Review" — with expansion suggestions for unserved destinations.

🔧 SimBrief Integration

Planning a flight just got easier. Click "Plan in SimBrief" on any flight detail page and your OFP is pre-filled with the correct aircraft type, passenger count from today's simulation data, cargo weight from your claimed contracts, and route waypoints.

🛡️ Fleet & Route Management

Our fleet of 25 aircraft is now fully managed through the platform — from Norwegian-registered LN-SK* aircraft at Oslo to Danish-registered OY-SK* at Copenhagen. Admins can add, edit, and manage aircraft and routes directly from the dashboard.

🎟️ Free Flight Codes

Hub administrators can now generate free flight passes for pilots. Codes come in five flavors: single flight, 24 hours, 3 days, 7 days, or 30 days. Redeem them from your dashboard and fly any route without restriction.
